Currie Johnson obtains defense verdict in malpractice case

Whit Johnson and Senica Tubwell recently obtained jury verdict for a local physician and others in a suit filed by the family members of a patient who died as a result of a bowel perforation following gynecologic surgery. The hospital, the general surgeon who had provided exposure for the surgery and the internal medicine physician who provided care when the patient’s condition deteriorated were also sued. The defense was based on the fact that complication was a recognized risk of the procedure and that its existence was recognized in a reasonably timely fashion.
